Abstract

OBJECTIVES

This study investigated how postgraduate residents see ChatGPT's function in clinical and research settings.

METHODOLOGY

May 1, 2024, to September 30, 2024, was the time frame for this research. Twelve postgraduate residents from three tertiary care institutions in Peshawar participated in a qualitative exploratory study. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather the data, and a thematic analysis was performed to determine the main topics.
RESULTS
While ChatGPT saved research time, study participants reported that it also generated issues with data privacy and information accuracy. Power users felt the instrument was easier to use, although there was a range of comfort levels. While its capabilities were promising, most participants worried that using AI to make clinical judgments was risky.
CONCLUSION
ChatGPT can be a helpful addition to research-based tasks, but like any other technology, it may be misused in clinical settings. This calls for better training and optimization standards, which must be addressed in our medical practice.
